We are seeking an intellectually curious and empathetic Religious Education Teacher to join a high-performing department in Barking. As a borough defined by its rich industrial history and its current status as a focal point for urban regeneration and community growth Barking offers a vibrant living classroom. We are looking for an educator who can navigate complex worldviews with sensitivity fostering a classroom environment where critical thinking mutual respect and academic rigour go hand-in-hand.

Core Responsibilities

• Curriculum Excellence: Delivering engaging RE lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with the opportunity to teach A-Level Philosophy or Ethics for qualified candidates.

• Theological Enquiry: Guiding students through the study of the six major world religions as well as non-religious worldviews like Humanism and Atheism ensuring a balanced and scholarly approach.

• Ethical Debate: Leading rigorous discussions on contemporary moral issuessuch as social justice medical ethics and environmental stewardshipencouraging students to evaluate diverse perspectives.

• GCSE & A-Level Preparation: Preparing students for the rigours of external examinations (e.g. AQA or Edexcel Religious Studies) focusing on high-level analysis and evaluative essay writing.

• Spiritual & Moral Development: Contributing significantly to the schools SMSC (Spiritual Moral Social and Cultural) agenda promoting community cohesion and British Values in a diverse urban setting.

• Pastoral Care: Serving as a dedicated Form Tutor providing a supportive environment and acting as a consistent point of professional contact for students and their families.

Candidate Profile

• Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a degree in Religious Studies Theology Philosophy or a related Humanities discipline. ECTs are warmly encouraged to apply.
