Assistant Accountant (Pensions)
Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire County Pension Fund are among the largest local authorities and Local Government Pension Funds in England. The Fund has assets valued at over 12 billion with more than 350 participating employers and over 200000 scheme members.
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide maternity cover and support the delivery of highquality financial and administrative services. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their experience within a large and complex publicsector pension fund.
About the Role
Based within the Lancashire County Pension Fund Team you will support the daytoday financial operations of the Fund. The team reports directly to the Head of the Pension Fund and works closely with a wide range of external stakeholders including:
- Pension fund employers
- External auditors
- Specialist advisers and service providers
- Local Pensions Partnership Administration (pensions administration services)
- LPPI Holdings Limited (investment management services)
- Local authorities banking institutions and the Funds custodian
You will play an important role in ensuring the effective flow of financial information maintaining strong financial controls and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting.
The position requires strong skills in Microsoft Excel Oracle Financials and relies on experience in using bespoke system. The Fund relies on the internally developed Pensions Contributions Remittance System (PCR) used to collect membership data and contributions from employers.
Key Responsibilities:
- monthly and quarterly preparation and posting of Oracle journals
- detailed and regular reconciliation of key items of Fund income and expenditure
- Producing the budget monitoring report and analysing variances.
- supporting the production and publication of the Statement of Account.
- maintenance of Fund Oracle chart of accounts
- Producing cash flow.
- respond independently to queries often from outside bodies
About You:
We are looking for a candidate who:
- has a relevant accounting qualification e.g. AAT or relevant experienceJL1
- experience of using accounting and finance systems.
- experience using Microsoft packages including excel with use of formula
