Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg a leading pan-European private equity firm with deep expertise in healthcare focused on a select set of subsectors including pharmaceutical services and technology medtech and related services life science tools and diagnostics.
This decision follows a thoughtful evaluation as part of Thermo Fishers ongoing business strategy to actively manage and strengthen our portfolio.
We expect the transaction will be completed in the second half of 2026 subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals. Until the transaction is complete Thermo Fisher will continue to operate the business.

Position Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for the day-to-day execution of production planning activities to support efficient manufacturing across the Basingstoke and East Grinstead partnership with the Master Planning team this role converts demand into detailed executable production schedules ensuring alignment with capacity material availability and operational constraints.
Working closely with Production Order Management Customer Services QC and QA the planner ensures that plans are delivered on time issues are escalated and resolved promptly and customer commitments are met. The role plays a key part in maintaining service performance controlling inventory and driving continuous improvement within the planning function.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily production planning activities in alignment with site and network objectives to support efficient manufacturing across both sites
- Translate demand and Master Production Schedule (MPS) into detailed executable production plans aligned with capacity and material availability
- Review and act on ERP (MRP) messages exceptions and system recommendations to maintain accurate and achievable production schedules
- Create and manage production and intercompany orders in line with business priorities
- Monitor performance against key metrics including service level schedule adherence and inventory targets and take appropriate action
- Participate in daily Tier meetings providing updates escalating risks and driving timely resolution
- Partner with Production Order Management Customer Services QC and QA to ensure effective execution of the production plan
- Identify risks to supply and production schedules and implement mitigation plans
- Maintain accurate root cause analysis for delays shortages and out-of-stock scenarios
- Monitor material availability and shelf life driving actions to minimise excess obsolescence and scrap
- Ensure compliance with regulatory quality health & safety and internal process requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning processes and operational performance
- Maintain high standards of data accuracy within ERP systems
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Experience in production planning scheduling or supply chain within a manufacturing or regulated environment
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred)
- Ability to translate demand into effective production plans within capacity and material constraints
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
- APICS (CPIM) certification or willingness to work towards is advantageous
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to on-time in-full delivery
