EAST PROVIDENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT Job DescriptionJob Title: DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING - 12 monthsReports To: Superintendent or designeeEvaluated By: Superintendent JOB DESCRIPTION: The Director of Teaching and Learning provides direct support and feedback to all instructional and administrative staff on the development of district-wide school improvement efforts and the related programs that support student services grades Pre-K through 12. The individual is responsible for the management of instructional services based on the effective use of data collaborative processes that include all stakeholder groups and the use of research based instructional strategies. As a member of the executive team the Director of Teaching and Learning will provide leadership and strategic vision in coordinating developing implementing and evaluating the Districts instructional programs/assessments and focus on assuring that district instructional staff have the instructional skills/pedagogy materials and background knowledge including use of technology to increase student achievement. These skills include building and supporting inclusive learning environments that honors each learners REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability needed for the Degree with a minimum of five years of effective teaching Administrative License: Building Principal Superintendent Director of CurriculumExperience in various aspects of school administration Experience and knowledge of Tiered Approach(MTSS) in Instructional PracticesExperience and knowledge of Scientifically Based Reading Research (SBRR)Experience and knowledge of Early Intervention to close academic learning gapsExperience with successfully working with culturally diverse families and communities and/or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to equity and strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse of the administrative/support services which a school system and knowledge of facilitating data driven protocols that support student achievement and improvementAbility to interpret and implement all policies administrative regulations and negotiated to showcase excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to organize work set priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the to provide leadership in the supervision of all school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the districts instructional program. Ability to facilitate the development revisions and evaluation of the curriculum and instructional services for the of governmental statutes regulations and rules relating to instruction curriculum student learning and ability to advise interested parties of the provisions of the laws. Ability to counsel with employees to resolve complaints difficulties and other matters related to instruction curriculum and student learning. Administer the school districts Mission Vision Core Values and to prepare district level reports that are required by law or are requested by the superintendent. Ability to coordinate the districts curriculum program grades K-12 in conjunction with the superintendent principals department heads and teachers. Ability to serve as liaison between the district and community interpreting activities and policies of the district and encouraging community involvement with the to provide direction to others and to make independent judgments. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students parents teachers and community .Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds. Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet alternatives to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may also be assigned. Manage curriculum administrative functions Develop and evaluate the districts educational/instructional program to ensure conformance to state and school committee standards. Provide for the development of clear and comprehensive assessment of student achievement and interpretation of results to staff school committee and community. Recommend district-wide direction as a result of the analysis of student the development of the District Improvement Plan and supervise the writing of School Improvement Plans. Provide leadership and consultation to individual schools as an environment in which all staff members are comfortable and forthcoming in sharing their ideas needs and concerns and in which the staff collaboratively works together to seek solutions and leadership in seeking grant funds and assist in writing and implementing grants to support priorities and district with the Assistant Superintendent to write the CRPWorks with Technology Department to integrate technology into the instructional programWorks with Pupil Personnel and MLL Directors to ensure equitable access to curriculumReview district instructional and curricular programs for cultural responsiveness and collaborate with other relevant stakeholders to continually improve the inclusivity of culturally responsive instructional methods and professional development and training. Assist individual building principals in addressing their needs in these areas. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student staff and/or parent information. Coordinate a staff development program to include an annual needs assessment and the arranging of all in-service activities (workshops speakers classes etc.). Serve as a consultant to staff/principals regarding instruction. Assist the superintendent in the districts long range planning for instruction and in conjunction with Directors Principals and staff to create systems and oversee initiatives including MTSS attendance and other areas as neededKeep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings reading professional journals and other publications and discussing educational issues of mutual interest with other professionals in the field. Participate in administrative meetings committee meetings negotiation meetings and other such meetings as required or appropriate. Prepare structured presentations to the Superintendent and other relevant stakeholders to share the program evaluation results. Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate . Qualifications:Certification or eligibility for certification as a principal or superintendent of schoolsMasters degree requiredSignificant leadership experience in public education central office or district-level administration preferredDemonstrated success in improving student outcomes and leading organizational changeStrong expertise in curriculum and instruction
