Summary Job Description: Participate in increasing the Project Management ability to predict project progress by delivering a holistic consolidated and independent view on schedule in order to meet the overall Project objectives / targets.

Key Responsibilities

Safety / Quality Assurance / Risk Management/ IMS and general activities

The Plant Project Engineer is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Apply engineering and technical knowledge guided by the Group technical standards and design rules compiled in the Industrial Management System (IMS)

  • Ensure IMS compliance of the project throughout the project lifecycle to achieve safe environmentally compliant and reliable operation

  • Achieve high safety performance by applying all safety rules within the project.

  • Prepare and conduct the capitalization review and share feedback within the organization promoting a growth mindset organization

During the Development Phase:

The Plant Project Engineer is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Support Production teams and Zone engineers in the early stage of project definition and estimate development

  • Prepare the key project deliverables such as technical solution scope budget schedule and risks identification.

  • Creating scope of work for detailed engineering and Identify applicable internal/external project standards requirements

  • Ensure the basis of design and engineering deliverables meet Airgas standards and local codes.

During the Execution Phase:

The Plant Project Engineer is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Apply sound engineering knowledge in his main domain of expertise: Mechanical Piping Process.

  • Act as Overall Design Authorities (ODA) interfacing with internal/external Subject Matter Experts (SME) and Design Authorities (DA)

  • Supporting the procurement team in expediting review of vendor documentation RFI and providing technical support documents.

  • Manage overall project with excellence to ensure safe and reliable delivery and achieve the project KPIs as defined in the project charter (Technical Performances Capex schedule Risks...).

  • Contract manage and challenge external/internal suppliers and contractors.

  • Coordinate all project stakeholders mainly the Operation teams to ensure the quality and integrity all through the project phases.

  • Manage the project as per Airgas Project Execution Handbook and report regularly on the project status.

  • Manage risks and mitigation plans. Identifying tracking and mitigating the impact of any risk/change occurring during the execution phase.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate knowledge in Mechanical Piping and Process Engineering

  • Good knowledge of ASME CSA NFPA and CGA standards and legislation concerning pressure vessels.

  • Proficient with engineering and technical documents: P&IDs electrical one line diagram site layout drawings

  • General knowledge including but not limited to Civil Structural Process Control Electrical and Instrumentation engineering

  • Good knowledge of project management methodology tools and techniques

Education Experience and Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering: preferably mechanical or chemical engineering.

  • Preferably 5 to 7 years of experience in engineering in the fields of mechanical engineering and piping.

  • Preferably 3 years of experience in project management

  • Experience in the industrial gases sector and industrial projects ideally in air separation large on-site facilities and cryogenics is an asset.

  • Active membership in one of Canadas engineering regulatory bodies is an asset but not required.

Travel requirements: Occasionally or frequently to the United States and Canada depending on projects (up to 1015% of working time and could reach 50% sporadically).
