Job Summary

BHS SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ESY PROGRAM

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides evaluation and intervention services to high school students participating in an Extended School Year (ESY) program. The SLP supports students in developing and maintaining communication skills necessary for academic success social interaction and post-secondary readiness including employment education and independent living. This role emphasizes supporting students with diverse learning needs including students with autism spectrum disorder and those with emotional and/or behavioral needs through individualized and group-based services delivered across school and community settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide direct and consultation speech and language therapy services to students in individual and/or group settings
  • Support students in developing functional communication social communication and pragmatic language skills
  • Work with students on skills related to self-advocacy social interaction and communication in real-world settings
  • Collaborate with teachers paraprofessionals related service providers and families to support student progress and carryover of skills
  • Accompany classes and/or conduct site visits to community-based locations including internships field trips and volunteer placements to support student programming
  • Support students in generalizing communication skills across school community and workplace environments
  • Collect data and monitor student progress maintaining accurate documentation and progress reports
  • Provide recommendations strategies and supports to reinforce communication development
  • Adapt as needed to changes in student and/or team response available treatment locations and educational activities
  • Ability to travel between school and community-based sites as needed
  • Flexibility to support student programming across a variety of settings
  • Accompany classes and/or conduct site visits to community-based locations including internships field trips and volunteer placements to support student programming
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment

QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED

  • Mass DESE Licensure required
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
  • Experience working with high school and/or post-secondary students with diverse learning needs including students with emotional and/or behavioral needs and students with autism spectrum disorder
  • Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with community-based instruction life skills and transition planning preferred
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) preferred
  • Provide virtual (Zoom) services when needed
  • Ability to work effectively in both school and community-based environments



SCHEDULE

  • July 6 2026 - August 13 2026
  • All staff report for a full day on July 6th for orientation and classroom set-up. Students begin on July 7th
  • 9:00 - 2:00 Monday - Thursday - hours site and schedule may vary dependent upon caseload
  • Provide virtual (Zoom) services when needed
  • Accompany classes and/or conduct site visits to community-based locations including internships field trips and volunteer placements to support student programming
  • Additional 30 minutes per day for planning
  • One additional day to be completed prior to the end of the program allotted for progress report writing
