The Program
At Taproot Community Support Services were a 100 percent employee-owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Every employee is an owner from their first day with a voice in shaping Taproots future and the opportunity to share in employee ownership dividends.

Our 800-plus employee-owners live by five shared values: we are stronger together we lead with optimism we embrace challenges we respect every voice and we go above and beyond. Guided by these principles we deliver more than 125 community-based services each year. We walk alongside about 1600 children youth families and people with diverse abilities with revenues exceeding $70 million.
Our new staffed residential home is anticipated to open in June 2026 in sunny South Okanagan - Penticton BC. The home is designed specifically for adults with differing abilities. The program will provide specialized support for individuals with complex care needs focusing on positive relationships and strengthening connections within their community. The home will offer a safe and supportive environment tailored to meet individual needs while promoting dignity respect and inclusion.
The Position
The awake residential night worker (ARNW) for this accredited agency attends to the health well-being safety and security of residents and the program site at night and provides general non-specific services to clients as required. Maintains a comfortable and clean living environment
This position requires union membership with BCGEU.
Scheduling:
Two (2) permanent part-time positions working 24-32 hours per week:
Position 132 hours Sunday through Wednesday 2300-0700
Position 224 hours Thursday through Saturday 2300-0700
In Your Role You Will
Monitors residents through the night and attends to any medical and behavioural needs that arise during the night.
Follows through on direction regarding specific residents left by the day staff.
Notifies staff of any major problems or emergencies; responds to emergencies according to
established policies and procedures.
Supports residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of shift.
Ensures residents follow house rules; monitors curfew regulations and reports to appropriate
authorities as required.
Administers medications to residents according to established policy and procedure.
Ensures logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.
Performs light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming dusting emptying garbage cleaning and laundry; performs minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; reports maintenance needs to the program manager.
Complies with policies procedures and values of the agency and uses best practices when supporting residents.
Utilizes practices that promote service recipient health welfare safety and security; secures the building by arming alarms and locking doors and windows.
Prepares and assists residents in breakfast preparation.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
***Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
Grade 12.
Minimum of six months recent related experience in a community-based setting or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Must have Valid Class 4 BC Drivers License with clean drivers abstract
The physical ability to meet the demands of the role
Previous experience within a licensed home and trauma informed practice
Training in wheelchair safety is an asset
Training / work experience as a health care aid for complex medical needs and experience providing personal care for adults
Community inclusion training / work experience
Valid CPR/First Aid WHMIS and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates
Mandt and/or Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate
Positive behavior supports training is an asset
