Job Summary

Job Title: Director of Career and Technical Education Exemption Status: Exempt/Professional

Reports to: High School Principal/Chief Academic Officer Date Revised: 2.19.26

Dept./School: High School

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership and oversight for the districts Career and Technical Education (CTE) program while delivering high-quality classroom instruction in assigned CTE courses. Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements promote continuous program improvement and prepare students for postsecondary education industry certification and workforce success.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree

Valid CTE teaching certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of federal and state laws governing the CTE program

Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional best practices

Ability to interpret and analyze student performance and program data

Ability to manage budgets and oversee program compliance

Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to supervise staff while maintaining classroom effectiveness.

Experience:

CTE teaching experience required (3 years preferred)

Experience in program leadership coordination or supervision preferred


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Leadership and Instructional Oversight

  1. Provide leadership in the development implementation and continuous improvement of district CTE programs and Programs of Study.
  2. Ensure curriculum instructional materials assessments and industry certification opportunities align with TEA guidelines and workforce demands.
  3. Analyze student achievement and program data to evaluate effectiveness and implement improvements.
  4. Support alignment of CTE pathways with graduation endorsements and postsecondary readiness goals.
  5. Maintain compliance with all federal state and local CTE regulations and reporting requirements.

Classroom Instruction

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that align with district curriculum and state standards.
  2. Deliver engaging industry-aligned instruction that reflects real-world applications and workforce expectations.
  3. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
  4. Assess student progress using formal and informal measures and adjust instruction accordingly.
  5. Maintain a safe structured and industry-standard classroom/lab environment.

Business and Community Partnerships

  1. Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses industry leaders and community organizations.
  2. Coordinate work-based learning experiences internships job shadowing and career exploration opportunities.
  3. Promote CTE programs to students parents and community stakeholders

Budget and Resource Management

  1. Collaborate with the Principal and District Leadership to oversee the CTE budget and ensure effective use of CTE allotment and grant funds.
  2. Maintain inventory of equipment and instructional materials.
  3. Ensure facilities labs and equipment meet safety standards and industry expectations.

Staff Support and Collaboration

  1. Assist in recruiting supporting and evaluating CTE instructional staff.
  2. Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to CTE teachers.
  3. Collaborate with campus administrators and counselors to support student course selection and pathway planning.
  4. Plan and assign work to instructional aides as applicable.

Professional Responsibilities

  1. Participate in district leadership meetings and professional development.
  2. Facilitate the Districts CTE Advisory Committee
  3. Stay current on CTE trends labor market data and certification requirements.
  4. Support the mission and strategic goals of the district

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Provide program-level instructional oversight of CTE teachers including review of curriculum implementation course content instructional materials and industry alignment.
  2. Direct the work of assigned instructional aides.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including a personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
