Bank Diabetic Clinical Nurse Specialist

Pinehill Hospital

We are looking for a Diabetic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Pinehill Hospital on a Bank contract.

The role of the diabetes specialist nurse will be required to provide training on a quarterly basis to staff be available to provide support to Pinehill PAC Wards and Theatres for any concerns in relation to patients with diabetes and give advice when required. To give expert advice on incidents that are under review in line with PSIRF process advice Pinehill Hospital with any updates that may be relevant to their practise to promote best practise.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert diabetes assessment for surgical patients attending Pinehills pre-assessment clinic wards and theatre recovery.

  • Support optimisation of diabetes prior to surgery including interpreting HbA1c results and advising on management.

  • Provide specialist advice on insulin adjustment and non-insulin diabetes medications

  • Work closely with pharmacy for medication reconciliation.

  • Provide clear education regarding diabetes management around surgery.

  • Work collaboratively with surgeons anaesthetists ward teams and pharmacy.

  • Ensure safe and timely discharge planning

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse (NMC).

  • Post-registration experience in diabetes or acute care.

  • Strong understanding of insulin therapy and diabetes medications.

  • Excellent communication and teaching skills.
