The Job:
We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer (FSE) to join our Unity Lab Services this role you will deliver a range of on-site service activitiesincluding installation maintenance repair and technical supportfor Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instruments.
The position is primarily based in Cambridge and surrounding areas with occasional travel across the UK and Ireland.
You will play a key role in ensuring:
- Exceptional customer satisfaction
- High first-time fix rates and reduced mean time to repair
- Minimal repeat service calls
You will also contribute to achieving service performance targets including bookings revenue profitability and cost control while adhering to all internal policies and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field service activities in accordance with company procedures customer requirements and health & safety regulations
- Provide technical support for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instruments (approximately 80% of role focus)
- Deliver a high standard of customer service ensuring a positive customer experience and long-term relationships
- Troubleshoot and escalate technical issues effectively to ensure timely resolution of critical problems
- Promote Thermo Fisher Scientifics products and services by identifying customer needs and logging sales leads (approx. 5%)
- Plan and coordinate service activities in collaboration with dispatch team leaders and management (approx. 5%)
- Maintain and manage company assets including tools test equipment IT equipment and company vehicle (approx. 5%)
- Complete accurate and timely documentation including service reports and expense submissions (approx. 5%)
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering Chemistry Physics or a related discipline
- 13 years experience servicing analytical instrumentation or equivalent experience as an application specialist or end user
- Knowledge of Mass Spectrometry Liquid Chromatography or Gas Chromatography is advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in standard IT systems and tools
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel extensively (MondayFriday) with occasional overnight stays
- Strong English communication skills both written and verbal
