LPN Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of the operating room and surgical instruments.
- Provide pre-operative patient care including vital signs monitoring and patient education.
- Support surgeons and RNs during surgical procedures.
- Monitor patient status intraoperatively and report changes to the RN or physician.
- Assist in post-operative patient recovery ensuring safety and comfort.
- Actively maintain professional development and competency in perioperative nursing.
RN Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and patient teaching.
- Prepare the operating room instruments and surgical supplies.
- Function as a scrub or circulating nurse during surgeries.
- Monitor patient status and intervene as required during procedures.
- Mentor and support LPNs student nurses and other OR staff.
Shared Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with infection control aseptic technique and safety protocols.
- Document patient care surgical procedures and incidents accurately.
- Assist in post-operative recovery and provide patient education on self-care and follow-up.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives audits and professional development activities.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards of Practice.
- Operating Room Certificate required and 2 years recent operating room experience preferred.
- Demonstrated scrubbing competence in all surgical services.
- Demonstrated good organizational skills and problem solving skills required.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well with a variety of staff patients and visitors.
