Job Summary

Job Title:Behavioral Interventionist

The Behavioral Interventionist will work closely with students teachers counselors and parents to support positive behavioral changes in students at the elementary school level. The role involves developing and implementing individualized behavior intervention plans providing direct support to students and collaborating with staff to create a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters academic and social-emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students based on assessment data and collaboration with school staff.
  • Provide direct support to students in the classroom and other school settings to manage and improve behavior.
  • Work closely with teachers to model and support classroom management strategies that promote a positive learning environment.
  • Monitor and track student behavior collecting data to assess progress and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with school counselors psychologists and special education staff to develop comprehensive support plans.
  • Conduct social skills groups individual counseling sessions or other targeted interventions based on student needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support to students experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to update on student progress and involve them in the behavior intervention process.
  • Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings and contribute to individualized education plan (IEP) development for students requiring special education services.
  • Provide professional development and training to staff on behavior management strategies trauma-informed care and positive behavioral interventions.
  • Maintain detailed records of interventions student progress and communications with stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in psychology education social work or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Experience working with students preferably in a school setting providing behavioral support and intervention.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies positive behavior supports (PBS) and crisis management techniques.
  • Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying behavioral challenges.
  • Certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) or related field preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of special education processes and laws (IDEA 504 plans etc.) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a variety of school settings including classroom playground and gymnasium.
  • Capacity to perform tasks that may require physical activity such as de-escalating situations or moving quickly to support students.
