About Us

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is committed to providing high quality and engaging programming to our visitors. We are looking for a Bilingual Heritage Programming Assistant for an approximate 16-week period from May to the end of August 2026. Successful candidates must be willing to work flexible hours up to 35 hours a week. Evening and weekend work will be required. This is a casual opportunity with an anticipated end date of August 29th 2026.

Primary Duties:

Under the supervision of the Coordinators of Visitor Experience and Visitor Services the Bilingual Heritage Programming Assistant will assist Museum staff by taking an active role in frontline interpretation during the fast-paced summer season. They will be called upon to lead interpretive programs & guided tours answer questions regarding the museum galleries & resident ship CSS Acadia demonstrate excellence in visitor service and assist with special events offering services in both French and English as needed. They will also review existing programs to identify areas for improvement that will increase levels of understanding interaction and accessibility for visitors.

Qualifications and Experience

The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution having preferably completed at least one year of study.Must be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) on-line candidate inventory () and meet the eligibility criteria of the program.

You should have an interest in and knowledge of Nova Scotian cultural and maritime history with university credits in history education or museum studies. You will need excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills. The ability to problem solve and work effectively as part of a team in a busy public environment will be key. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Assets include previous experience at cultural or heritage institutions experience working in public settings presenting in a public setting and computer proficiency with common software and web search engines. Fluency in spoken and written French is essential.

Salary Range: $18.00Hourly
