Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant (Pilot (Any)) to serve as Qualified Flying Instructor at Northumbria University Air Squadron RAF Leeming on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 14 September 2026.

6 FTS is the largest and most diverse military flying training school in the its HQ at RAFC Cranwell the school manages a broad range of flying tasks from Elementary Flying training on University Air Squadrons to the provision of Air Experience Flying (AEF) for the Air Cadet Organisation. The ASTRA project will instigatesignificant changefor 6FTS as it evolves to meet the 5 strategic through the core themes of people and training.

FTRS(LC)QualifiedFlying include;

Delivery ofair and ground instruction for ab-initio aircrew as well as conversion and currency training for experienced aircrew on the you will be working as a member of a small team andbe requiredto undertake a range of secondary duties associated with the supervision of flying and the management of the Squadron; including line management of staff. Furthermore in addition to your duties with the UAS but within the terms and conditions ofFTRS(LC) you willbe requiredto carry out those duties associated with a commissioned officer of your willbe requiredto:

  • Deliver flying trainingto UAS studentsin accordance withthe current6FTSsyllabus; normal working weekMon- Friinclusive.
  • Deliver flying programme and integrate with otherRAFLeemingusersto ensure most efficient usage of personnel and equipmentin achieving aims.
  • Deliver monitoring of student flying progress and administration of student flying records and documentation.
  • Deliver supervision of the RAFLeemingflying programme as Duty Pilot when directed.
  • Deliversupport to the 11AEF flying task when directed by OCUAS.
  • Deliver supervision of the 11AEF flying task
  • Deliver Line Manager activities for the UAS GTI fulfilling all reporting actions including MPAR.
  • Deliver change as directed by 6FTS or OC UAS.
  • Support UAS ground activities as directed by OC UAS in support of the ground training programme including:
  • Support UAS ground activities as directed by OC UAS in support of3rdparty assuranceexternal validations or standards visits.
  • Support UAS AT expeditions on a volunteer basis.
  • Leadand performby example upholding RAFand societal valuesand standards.
  • Act asan ambassadorfordiversity and inclusion.
  • Support the zero tolerance policiesregardingalcohol and substance abuseand bullying.
  • Act as line manager to the Ground Training Instructor.
  • Deliver supervisory care of RAFVR(UAS) students.
