Job Summary

Position Overview

dormakaba is seeking a Firmware Engineering Intern based in Lexington. This role will report directly to the VP Engineering. The Firmware Engineering Intern is responsible for partnering in the development testing and maintenance of embedded firmware for our products. This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about embedded systems and eager to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative environment.

What you will do

  • Support testing and validation of firmware features and bug fixes
  • Help analyze and troubleshoot firmware issues in collaboration with senior engineers
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards
  • Work with cross-functional teams such as hardware software and engineering support
  • Learn and follow best practices for version control testing and firmware deployment

What we require

  • Pursuing a bachelors or masters degree with anticipated graduation date in December 2026 through Spring 2029 in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science or a related field.
  • Ability to work full-time 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks (May-August 2026)
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • Experience with C and/or C programming
  • Understanding of basic electronics and digital logic

What we prefer

  • Familiarity with debugging tools (e.g. JTAG logic analyzers or similar) is a plus
  • Exposure to communication protocols such as UART SPI I2C or CAN
