Essential Job Duties

  • Inspects makes repairs and adjustments and conducts necessary tests on Plant systems and equipment such as buildings boilers fire alarm systems pressure vessels piping air tanks storage tanks and drainage systems.
  • Submits inspection findings in accordance with established preventive maintenance reporting procedures.
  • May perform nondestructive testing of presses mandrels tanks tooling and fixtures.
  • Must be able to work under general supervision.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of reports on inspections performed.
  • Makes necessary follow-up reports to supervision as required.
  • Schedules own work in accordance with requirements of the job.
  • Responsible for inspections being performed in compliance with prevailing American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and National fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes Nondestructive testing (NDT) codes and Plant Standards.
  • Responsible for performing all work according to established safety rules/guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal State Department of Energy (DOE) Corporate and Plant rules regulations Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2) and Management.
  • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
  • Understands a workers right to stop work when they feel their own or others personal safety is jeopardized.
  • Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
  • Must meet initial employment requirements.
  • Must be able to read write and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions including the physical ability to perform thorough inspection of all related equipment as determined by Medical Evaluation with no tendency toward claustrophobia or acrophobia.
  • Must be proficient in the use of any and all tools necessary to perform inspections as required.
  • May be required to have an NDT Level II Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant Certification.
  • Must possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operators License.
  • All qualifications work history training and education may be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved may be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.

Mechanical

  • Must have one (1) year documented/demonstrated experience in inspection and testing of water-based fire systems. The one-year total experience may be derived from apprenticeship installation inspection testing
    troubleshooting or repair of industrial fire systems.
  • And:
    • Must have a Journeyman Pipefitter designation and have four (4) years experience. Applicants will be required to obtain National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems certification within
      two (2) years and six (6) months from the date of hire.
    • Or be Certified NICET Level II Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems and have four (4)years experience.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

DOE Order 426.2A Requirements

In addition to the above requirements the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. High School diploma or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

  • Lifting or carrying less than 51 pounds (or specify # of pounds 40)
  • Straight pulling or pushing (2hours/day)
  • Reaching above shoulder level
  • Repetitive motion of the wrist/forearm
  • Walking (2hours/day)
  • Standing (2hours/day)
  • Repeated bending at the waist
  • Repeated squatting
  • Climbing with arms and legs (ladder etc.)
  • Operation of motorized vehicle
  • Normal far vision in at least one eye correctable to 20/40 (20 feet)
  • Near vision (must be able to read computer screen manuscript book etc at approximately 13-16 inches from face)
  • Depth perception (ability to tell how close or far an object is)
  • Must demonstrate practical ability to differentiate colors
  • Good hearing
  • No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
  • Ability to use small tools
  • Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties

Notes

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
