Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422 F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible or predominately responsible for failure to comply.

This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services Resource Management Maintenance Administration and Protection of Troy Spring State Park and Adams Tract River Camp. Coordinates an active volunteer program. Administrative functions require familiarization with computer applications internet email weekly revenue collection operation/programming of a POS register system and the use of scanners and printers.

VISITOR SERVICES Explains facilities and services provided for public use enjoyment and education; meets visitors answers questions provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs and unit specific services as directed. Plans organizes & conducts community outreach activities special events & festivals to expand public understanding of the FPS and the parks management objectives. Implements volunteer programs within the park including but not limited to schools scout groups local organizations and camp host. Provide training to all volunteers and maintain and track all reports.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Observes maintains and protects the natural cultural historic and archaeological resources of the park. Participates in vegetation and wildlife management plans; maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects. Participates in water resources management plans. Collects and records resource management data. May participate in prescribed burning and related activities.

MAINTENANCE Constructs cleans maintains and repairs park grounds facilities and equipment utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Makes routine inspections to ensure proper maintenance standards are met. Plans projects assigns work and oversees volunteers. Assist park management in assigning daily duties and monitoring of OPS staff.

ADMINISTRATION Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects. Answers telephone operate a park radio and various office equipment and maintains logs. Conducts purchasing and fiscal activities in compliance with established procedures. Collects fees performs POS transactions and reconciles receipts. Answers correspondence and maintain park files.

PROTECTION Performs routine patrols and takes appropriate action to ensure visitor safety and adherence to park rules; ensures adherence to the Park Protection Plan. Opens and/or secures park facilities as appropriate. The duties of this position require the incumbent to reside on the property.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Methods and techniques used in repair and/or maintenance of park facilities equipment grounds & historic structures

Administrative practices to include but not limited to daily & monthly reports collections of park fees purchasing policies & inventory

The procedures & policies of archaeological cultural & natural resource management

FPS diving policies.

SKILLED IN:

Using a variety of hand and power tools/equipment

Performing grounds and building maintenance

Basic plumbing

Basic electrical work

Good customer service

The operation and use of various kinds of equipment including tractors zero radius mower etc.

Computer operation and Microsoft Office Suite

ABILITY TO:

Train volunteers and oversee work projects

Assists park management in monitoring OPS staff in completion of daily duties

Speak in public

Work independently

Perform a variety of skilled trade functions

Perform physical labor using assorted power/gas tools and equipment

Utilize canoes and kayaks

Accurately prepare reports

Collect fees and operate cash registers

Understand and apply applicable rules regulations policies and procedures

Plan and oversee schedules

Utilize problem solving techniques

Coordinate and conduct meetings information and orientation programs

Recruit & screen volunteers

Assist in program planning

Prepare and maintain records

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Drivers License

Successfully complete ranger academy

Reside on park property

Work rotating shifts including evenings weekends and holidays

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422 Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Pay:

$3176.43/month
