Job Summary

Summary Statement

As a Labor Law Enforcement Officer youll perform labor standards and civil rights work requiring the application of state/federal labor standards and civil rights laws regulations and precedent legal decisions to protect workers educate employers eliminate illegal employment practices remove barriers to equal opportunity in employment and deliver benefits to qualified clients. Duties will include conducting case intakes investigations resolving cases through mediation and negotiations preparing settlement agreements and preparing cases for litigation before the related State Boards or court.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Investigates and resolves complaints and enforces various state labor standards and civil rights laws.
  • Advises employers employees attorneys and other interested parties of the applicability and interpretation of the various laws; provides information to the general public regarding labor standards and civil rights laws regulations and filing procedures.
  • Gathers examines and interprets data such as payroll medical and other records to determine amount due; collect wages and benefits if applicable.
  • May participate in annual prevailing wage survey of contractors; provides prevailing wage determinations to governmental entities contractors architects contracting agencies and others requesting information.
  • Prepares case summaries reports and correspondence for cases. Maintains records of complaints received and disposition of cases.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the law new interpretations; attends training seminars or conferences.

Job Requirement Series

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Labor Law Enforcement Officer I
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Bachelors degree or higher which includes coursework in conducting studies descriptive statistics inferential statistics and studying laws rules or regulations.
OR

  1. Six months experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information gathering evidence and documenting findings.
  2. Six months experience in resolving labor law or employment discrimination complaints.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws rules regulations standards policies and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Labor Law Enforcement Officer II
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. One year experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information gathering evidence and documenting findings.
  2. Six months experience in resolving labor law or employment discrimination complaints.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws rules regulations standards policies and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Labor Law Enforcement Officer III
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information gathering evidence and documenting findings.
  2. Three years experience in resolving labor law or employment discrimination complaints.
  3. Three years experience in interpreting laws rules regulations standards policies and procedures.
  4. Two years experience in developing and conducting staff training.
  5. Two years experience in narrative report writing.

Additional Posting Information

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicableterms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
