EEG Technician (Neurodiagnostic Technologist)
Job Description
Position Summary:
The EEG Technician is responsible for performing electroencephalographic (EEG) procedures to measure and record brain activity for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. This role works closely with neurologists and healthcare teams to ensure accurate data collection and patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for EEG procedures by explaining the process and ensuring comfort
- Apply and maintain electrodes according to standardized protocols
- Operate EEG equipment to record brain wave activity
- Monitor patients during testing including recognizing and responding to seizure activity
- Document patient history observations and technical findings
- Ensure accuracy and quality of recordings for physician interpretation
- Maintain clean and troubleshoot EEG equipment
- Follow infection control safety and compliance guidelines
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to support patient care
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology or related field preferred
- Certification such as R. EEG T. from American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists preferred or eligible
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required
- Previous experience in EEG or neurodiagnostics is an asset
