Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Student Affairs Communications & Marketing the Marketing Specialist is responsible for increasing awareness understanding and utilization of campus support resources among students at CSULB. This position supports and collaborates with all Student Affairs programs with a primary focus on Beach Wellness (Counseling & Psychological Services and Rising Tides Student Health Services Safer and the CAST mobile crisis team) by developing and executing strategic data-informed and student-centered marketing initiatives. Using current and innovative digital and print marketing strategies the specialist creates compelling content that resonates with a college student audience ensures consistent messaging across platforms and leverages data and marketing best practices to effectively connect students with essential resources that support their academic success and overall well-being. The Marketing Specialist will work closely with students to write produce and create content for high visibility. The incumbent will stay updated on media trends in the higher education landscape and bring new and innovative ideas to CSULB. By upholding accessibility standards supervising student assistants and facilitating cross-departmental partnerships the specialist contributes to the enhancement of communication efforts and the promotion of equity and inclusivity across campus.

Furthermore the incumbent provides services that are equitable inclusive and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy & Execution: Develop implement and oversee comprehensive digital and print marketing strategies that promote Student Affairs programs services and resources with a primary focus on Beach Wellness (Counseling & Psychological Services and Rising Tides Student Health Services Safer and the CAST mobile crisis team).
  • Collaboration and coordination with Student Affairs/Campus Departments: Meet regularly with Student Affairs departments and campus partners to identify marketing needs and opportunities.
  • Data informed marketing & assessment: Utilize available data sources such as campus surveys website analytics social media metrics and engagement data to inform marketing decisions.

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5178 (Step #1) - $7543 (Step #20) per month.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong understanding of social media platforms social media marketing strategy and best practices for engagement. Excellent oral and written communication skills required to address a wide variety of audiences and constituency groups including 1:1 meetings with department leadership and departmental group meetings. Ability to listen and take feedback from individuals and groups and implement with accuracy direction address issues etc. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and insights to drive decision-making. Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude.

Knowledge of current trends in social media marketing. Ability to stay updated with fast-paced changes in communications industry standards. Excellent organizational time management and project management skills. Completes deadlines and follows outlined timelines. Ability to work effectively with colleagues across various units. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelors degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience required. Occasional evenings and or weekends.

Preferred:

Professional or technical experience.

Experience in marketing promotion communications digital media or related field.

Progressively responsible professional experience in social media engagement and digital marketing preferred.

Three-years experience and fluency in social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram YouTube TikTok etc.

Experience in media production equipment and software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite).

Experience supervising leading and mentoring students/student groups from diverse backgrounds.

Possess or be eligible to possess a valid CA Drivers License.
