Senior Infrastructure Engineer

About This Role

Were seeking a Senior DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer to modernize our infrastructure and mentor our growing engineering team. Youll lead infrastructure improvements across all our products while helping junior and mid-level engineers develop platform engineering thinking.

This role is 50% hands-on infrastructure work and 50% mentorship/technical leadership.

What Youll Do

Infrastructure Modernization (50%) - Audit current AWS infrastructure and identify optimization opportunities Redesign network architecture as IAC enabled (Ansible for network automation Terraform for cloud) - Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) across all environments - Modernize CI/CD pipelines (currently using GitHub Actions; opportunity to optimize) - Design employment automation strategies - Establish monitoring logging and observability standards - Lead infrastructure security improvements

Technical Mentorship (50%) - Establish platform engineering standards and best practices - Conduct code reviews and architectural assessments - Pair program with junior/mid-level engineers on complex infrastructure problems - Guide architectural decisions across projects - Build platform engineering culture in the organization

Key Projects Youll Lead

1. Network Infrastructure Modernization (CRITICAL)

• Goal: Redundant resilient network architecture
  

2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Standards

• Current: Mix of manual AWS some basic automation
  
• Goal: All infrastructure managed through Terraform
  
• Impact: Faster deployments disaster recovery consistent environments
  

3. CI/CD Pipeline Optimization

• Current: GitHub Actions setup exists
  
• Goal: Optimize workflows reduce deployment time
  
• Impact: Faster feature releases better quality
  

4. Platform Standards Documentation

• Establish platform team standards (logging monitoring deployment patterns)
  
• Create runbooks for common infrastructure tasks
  
• Document architecture decisions
  

Required Qualifications

• 5-10 years of DevOps/Infrastructure/SRE experience
  
• Strong expertise in: Cloud platforms: AWS (EC2 RDS VPC Lambda etc.)
  
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform Ansible or CloudFormation
  
• CI/CD platforms: GitHub Actions GitLab CI or similar
  
• Linux/Unix systems administration
  
• Networking fundamentals (DNS load balancing VPCs security groups)
  
• Server management: Proxmox VE administration (2 nodes: 24-core/128GB 32-core/64GB)
  
• Network automation: Ansible playbooks for network device configuration (pfSense UniFi switches FreeRADIUS)
  
• DNS servers: Unbound or similar (authoritative/recursive resolvers)
  
• Identity management: Active Directory Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
  
• Windows Server: Windows Server administration (AD DS Group Policy DNS DHCP)
  
• Queue management: RedisMQ AWS SQS Apache Kafka or similar message brokers
  
• AI/ML infrastructure: Open-source LLM deployment (Ollama or similar)
  
• Experience mentoring junior/mid-level engineers
  
• Strong communication (teaching complex concepts clearly)
  
• Comfortable in startup/scaling environments
  
• Monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus CloudWatch DataDog etc.)
  
• Database administration/optimization
  
• Security infrastructure (firewalls SSL/TLS secrets management)
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Jenkins (CI/CD pipeline automation)
  
• SaltStack or similar configuration management
  
• Kubernetes/container orchestration
  
• Experience working with Python or teams
  
• Open source DevOps contributions
