Position Summary
As an Associate Developer you will contribute to the design development integration and validation of advanced scientific instrumentation operating in cryogenic and ultrahigh vacuum environments. Working under the guidance of more senior engineers and scientists you will participate in the engineering development lifecycle including concept support prototyping assembly testing and documentation of novel instrumentation used in advanced nanotechnology research.
This role is well suited for a recent engineering graduate or junior engineer who enjoys combining analytical thinking with hands-on experimentation and who is interested in pursuing long term growth as an instrumentation hardware or systems engineer.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the engineering design assembly and testing of mechanical and electrical subsystems for vacuum and cryogenic instrumentation
Support senior engineers in prototyping debugging and validating new hardware designs
Assist with the integration and commissioning of instrumentation in laboratory environments
Collaborate effectively with scientists engineers and technicians to meet project milestones
Apply engineering best practices to troubleshoot systemlevel issues identify root causes and propose solutions
Participate in engineering documentation including test procedures test reports assembly instructions and design notes
Collect organize and analyze experimental or test data to support design decisions
Follow established engineering change quality and safety processes
Gain handson exposure to vacuum systems cryogenic systems sensors and precision instrumentation as part of your professional development

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Able to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) security clearance
Bachelors degree in engineering (electrical mechanical or material engineering) or equivalent additional relevant professional experience
Strong hands-on experience in one or more of the following fields; electronics mechanics or material engineering
Demonstrated ability to apply theory to practical problems through lab work projects internships or coop experience
Familiarity with basic electrical measurement tools (e.g. multimeters oscilloscopes) or mechanical tools through academic or project work
Ability to work methodically document results and follow structured engineering processes
Ability to work safely and report any hazard in the work area
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to instrumentation experimental physics labs or hardware R&D
Academic or internship experience with:
Vacuum or pressure systems
Cryogenic systems or low temperature physics
Sensors actuators or precision hardware
Experience using CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks) for part or assembly modeling
Experience working on engineering project teams with defined deliverables
