THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR
North Wind Services is actively seeking a highly motivated individual with strong technical skills and a commitment to excellence to join our supplemental labor team supporting the Department of Energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Our team contributes to national security through science technology and engineering at vital federal research and development installations.

The ideal candidate is one who thrives in dynamic environments and is eager to develop their expertise while supporting cutting-edge operations. This position combines hands-on field work with remote operations using computer-based systems offering a unique opportunity to work with advanced technologies in a highly technical and collaborative environment.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years of age and able to meet preemployment requirements including physicals drug screenings and background investigations to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of North Wind Services a premier government contractor dedicated to employing well-qualified personnel to advance LLNLs mission in Livermore CA. While employed by North Wind Services the employee will take day-to-day directions from LLNL technical personnel. Pay benefits and employment management functions are provided by North Wind Services.

The Physical and Life Sciences Directorate has an opening for a senior level Physicist to assist with utilizing state-of-the-art opacity models and transport calculations for next generation HED experiments and to simulate time-dependent radiative processes in high-Z gas blanket INERTIA designs. The successful candidate will work on a part-time short-term basis to present timely results to working groups.

Essential Duties:
- Simulate spectral output and design opacity experiments based on future NGHED designs and help determine key physics mechanisms that may impact experiments.
- Utilize NGHED outputs for use in designing next generation opacity and radiation transport experiments.
- Develop and test next generation scaling laws.
- Model high-Z gas blanket opacity and energetics for INERTIA experiments.
- Present timely results to INERTA and NGHED working groups.
- Develop new high output scaling laws.
- Run relevant opacity transport and CR models to best determine blanket temperature and cooling rates.
- Work with INERTIA design team to optimize high Z gas size and density to minimize wall fatigue.

Essential Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ph.D. in Physics or other related scientific fields with a minimum of 12 years of experimental design and research experience.
- Expert level knowledge in collisional radiative modelling LTE and NLTE atomic physics and radiation transport.
- Experience in running NLTE codes such as CRETIN SCRAM and ENRICO and rad-hydro codes Lasnex and Hydra.
- Access to LC high-capacity computing for running codes accessing opacity data.

Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Government Clearance: Q - This position requires a Q-level clearance. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required and individuals holding multiple citizenships may need to renounce their non-U.S. citizenship before clearance is granted.
