Position Summary
A Senior Coastal Engineer leads the planning design and delivery of complex coastal and marine infrastructure projects. This role combines advanced technical expertise in coastal processes with project leadership client engagement and mentorship responsibilities. The Senior Coastal Engineer ensures sustainable resilient and cost-effective solutions to coastal challenges such as erosion flooding sea-level rise and storm impacts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and analysis of coastal protection and marine projects (e.g. seawalls breakwaters revetments shore protection works beaches groynes intake-outfall projects).
- Conduct hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling using industry software (e.g. MIKE Delft3D SWAN).
- Perform coastal risk assessments flood modeling and climate change adaptation studies.
- Supervise and assist in physical model studies and make modifications to the breakwater/ seawall/ revetment design as per the model study results
- Prepare design documents drawings Good for Construction drawings BOQ specifications etc.
- Oversee site investigations field data collection and interpretation of metocean data.
- Ensure designs comply with local national and international standards and guidelines.
2. Project Management
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with structural geotechnical environmental and marine specialists.
- Develop scopes of work project budgets and schedules.
- Monitor project progress quality and financial performance.
- Prepare technical reports proposals and tender documentation.
3. Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical contact for clients regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
- Present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support business development efforts including proposal writing and client relationship management.
4. Mentorship & Team Development
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and graduates.
- Review and approve design calculations reports and drawings.
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications :
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering Coastal Engineering Ocean Engineering or related field.
- 815 years of experience in design of coastal or marine engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of coastal processes wave theory sediment transport and coastal structures.
- Proficiency in coastal modeling tools and software.
- Experience managing large-scale infrastructure or climate resilience projects.
Additional Information :
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- Experience with climate adaptation and resilience planning frameworks.
- Familiarity with environmental impact assessments (EIA) and permitting processes.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
