Job Summary
Role:
We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer with strong core-java experience skilled in building scalable high-performance APIs and used to working with large code-bases. Proficient in designing robust system architectures the successful candidate will work in a small team directly with the dev-ops resources and the Head of Engineering. They will play a key part in developing and enhancing a large micro-service-based bespoke code-base used to handle risk and back-end operations for corporate and retail trading as well contribute to the overall technical road-map and the SDLC.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain high-performance backend services for complex data processing workloads
Design scalable architectures for large-volume calculations and data pipelines
Optimise database tables write SQL queries and optimize existing database architecture
Work directly with the business to define and deliver new features
Ensure optimal performance quality and reliability across backend services
Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks and defects
Follow best-practice engineering standards design patterns and architectural principles
Develop unit and integration test frameworks
Use knowledge and experience to contribute to the technical road-map of the products and the overall structure of the SDLC
Any other ad hoc duties that may be required
Technical Skills:
5 years of software engineer experience working with core-java
Minimum 2 years working with SQL databases
Strong API automation experience
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS Azure or GCP)
Experience working in Agile delivery environments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control
Experience with Python a plus
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Data Science Information Technology Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience essential
Experience working in a regulated industry preferably banking or finance
Proactive approach towards identifying opportunities for improvement and taking ownership to deliver solutions
