Who are we looking for
We are seeking a highly analytical and customer-focused Architectural Engineer to lead our user application data processing and analytics for deployed spaceborne this role you will be the interface between our deployed spacecraft payloads and the customers. You will oversee process and analyze the customer data from the systems such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Signal Intelligence (SigInt) projects. You will act as the key person responsible for discovering what information the customer truly needs determining what is technically feasible and architecting the solution. By defining the problem and the data pipeline with absolute clarity this role ensures that the practical implementation can be seamlessly executed in-house or confidently outsourced. Youll be reporting to the System Engineering team lead project teams and collaborating with colleagues from the operational department.
As an Architectural Engineer specializing in the User Application Data Processing & Analytics domain your expected key responsibilities will be:
- Customer needs discovery: Actively listen to and engage with customers across all organizational layers: operational strategic tactical and technical in order to truly understand their goals and constraints. Moreover you will act as a strategic advisor to less experienced customers by pitching concrete space-data-driven value propositions and use cases that trigger new ideas and solve unarticulated problems.
- Data architecture and processing: Design implement and maintain robust data processing mechanisms to handle complex payload and telemetry data from deployed spacecraft.
- Customer integration: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers post-deployment securely receiving and managing mission data handoffs.
- Mission analytics: Perform advanced statistical analysis and data analytics to draw conclusions on payload performance mission operations and spacecraft health.
- Cross-mission adaptability: Tailor processing architectures to suit diverse payload types including SAR SigInt communications subsystems and specialized science missions.
- Standard compliance: Ensure all data handling and space system engineering processes comply with mission-specific requirements seamlessly navigating between institutional (ESA/ECSS) frameworks and commercial (NewSpace) methodologies.
- Reporting: Translate complex analytical findings into clear actionable reports and insights for both internal engineering teams and external stakeholders.
Mandatory Requirements
- Eligible for an EU security clearance (EU citizen or eligible for citizenship and living in the EU for at least 10 years.
- Candidates currently living outside Belgium will only be considered if they are willing to relocate to Belgium before the start of their contract. Relocation is a prerequisite for employment.
- Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of Dutch and French is an asset.
Required technical competences and practical needs
- Masters degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering Computer Science Data Science Physics Space Engineering or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) standards alongside an understanding of commercial/NewSpace practices.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with space payload data. Familiarity with SAR and/or RF/SigInt data processing is beneficial.
- Strong background in data analytics statistical modelling and processing large datasets with a proven ability to bridge the gap between raw datasets and actionable business intelligence.
- Background in artificial intelligence and machine learning-based platforms for data processing and analysis.
- Proficiency in data visualization and graphical user interface development and design.
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages and data processing tools (e.g. Python MATLAB C/C).
- Willingness to travel.

- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams resolve complex engineering conflicts and make critical architectural decisions.
