JOB SUMMARY
The X-Ray technician supports orthopedic surgeons by performing high-qualitydiagnostic imaging and intra-operative fluoroscopyin a fast-paced outpatient surgical center. This roles requires strong technical skills attention to patient safety and the ability to work closely with surgeons nurses and surgical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic radiographic imaging including extremity spine and joint studies
- Operate Carm fluoroscopy equipment during orthopedic surgical procedures
- Position patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while ensuring comfort and safety
- Assist surgeons intraoperatively by adjusting imaging equipment as requested
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols for patients physicians and staff
- Apply proper shielding and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles
- Verify imaging orders and patient identification prior to procedures
- Maintain accurate imaging records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Prepare and maintain imaging equipment ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness
- Recognize and report equipment malfunctions promptly
- Follow infection control sterile field and OSHA safety standards
- Provide patient education and reassurance before and during imaging procedures
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons anesthesiology nursing and administrative staff
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- Active ARRT certification (or eligibility to obtain)
- Current state radiologic technologist license (as required by state regulations)
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic imaging techniques and fluoroscopy
- Strong understanding of radiation safety practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an orthopedic surgery center operating room or outpatient surgical setting
- Experience operating Carm fluoroscopy units
- Familiarity with orthopedic procedures such as joint replacements arthroscopy and fracture fixation
- Experience with EMR and PACS systems

Work Environment
- Outpatient orthopedic surgery center
- Exposure to imaging equipment and radiation (with appropriate safety controls)
- May require extended standing and use of protective lead apparel
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move patients with assistance
- Manual dexterity to operate imaging equipment
- Visual acuity sufficient to evaluate imaging quality
Credentials:
Current CPR certification
Must meet all health and screening requirements for specific assignments.
