The Dispatcher position is responsible for communicating with drivers monitoring pick-up and delivery progress and addressing any issues to ensure timely and accurate deliveries to our clients. The Dispatcher will play a critical role in coordinating and optimizing the delivery schedules of the companys fleet which consists of tractor-trailers 5-ton trucks cargo vans and cars.
The incumbent must have sufficient knowledge of using courier and tracking software as well as being up-to-date transportation laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively utilize courier software and coordinate pick-up and delivery routes to maximize on-time service standards
- Maintain regular communication with drivers
- Monitor driver locations delivery status and ETA; re-route as needed.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with operations warehouse and customer service teams.
- Prioritize and schedule urgent or time-sensitive shipments.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls emails when communicating with clients and drivers
- Provide regular updates on delivery status to clients and internal stakeholders
- Address and resolve any issues that may arise such as traffic delays or vehicle breakdowns
- Maintain accurate records of delivery schedules routes and driver activities
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations provincial / city by-laws and National Safety Code standards
- Contribute to a clean and safe working environment and adhere to company safety policies and procedures
- Participate in continuous learning of processes and equipment use as it relates to the job
- Prepare daily reports on delivery performance exceptions and ETA accuracy.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle
- 12 years of experience in dispatching logistics courier services or transportation coordination.
- Proficiency with dispatch/routing software and vehicle GPS tracking software.
- Strong multitasking time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; customer-service focused.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick operational decisions.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office Outlook Excel Teams) and familiarity with GPS/mobile apps.
- Availability to work variable shifts (early mornings evenings) as needed.
- Ability to pass background check.
- Ability to analyze performance data to identify operational efficiencies
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Working Conditions
- The Dispatcher is required to work 40 hours per week - Monday to Friday.
- There may be situations where Dispatcher needs to handle after hours and weekend calls
- Work in the office full-time
