Job Summary

Description

Phlebotomist Donor Services: Collects units of blood or blood components from volunteer blood donors while monitoring collection equipment and the donor for signs of adverse reactions. Performs vital signs point of care testing and reviews standard questionnaire to evaluate safety of blood donor and transfusion to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the collection of blood components to meet quality and safety requirements. Recruits and schedules blood donors for donation appointments. Performs apheresis collections using specialized equipment and/or collects blood at mobile blood drive locations.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic**

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months of phlebotomy experience OR currently employed as a Donor Service Phlebotomist I for at least 3 months. Customer service experience. Ability to have flexible day shift start and end to effectively work independently and with multiple individuals including specialists and Phlebotomist III team Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Individuals without BCLS will be required to successfully complete the course within 6 months of employment. A valid drivers license is required.

****DLMP employees that have been in their current lab/position less than 2 years must attach early release approval from their supervisor and Non-DLMP internal applicants that have been in their current department/position for less than one year must attach early release approval from the supervisor is required.
