Adobe Experience Platform (AEP) is the infrastructure that makes that possible at enterprise scale. Think sub-second latency 360-degree customer profiles built on the fly live data governance and machine learning pipelines all running across a multi-cloud multi-region architecture serving thousands of enterprise customers simultaneously.

This is not a greenfield side project. AEP is a production system at scale and the Bucharest engineering team is a full first-class part of building it.

What Youll Work On

You will be a Senior Backend Engineer on a product team that owns specific AEP services end-to-end from architecture decisions through deployment monitoring and iteration in production.

• Design and build Java-based backend services and microservices handling high-throughput low-latency data pipelines at scale.

• Drive technical decisions system design data modelling API contracts resiliency patterns with the confidence to advocate for the right solution and the judgment to know when to compromise.

• Raise the engineering bar in your team. That means thorough code reviews pushing for better abstractions and identifying performance and security risks early

• Mentor and be mentored. Bucharest is a senior-heavy team. You will have real access to experienced engineers and be expected to accelerate those around you in return.

• Ship with operational excellence meaningful observability disciplined CI/CD infrastructure as code and a bias toward systems that are boring in production.

• Work across domains. AEP is a platform; its value comes from integration. You will collaborate regularly with teams across Adobe including data science identity analytics and security.

Technology Stack
Examples of technologies used across the platform include:

• Java / JVM ecosystem (Java Kotlin)

• Kafka and event-driven architectures

• Cassandra HBase and distributed storage systems

• Cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure)

• Kubernetes and containerized services

• CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tools

• Observability tooling for monitoring and logging

What Were Looking For
You should apply if you have:

• 5 years of engineering experience building and operating production backend systems

• Deep fluency in Java or Kotlin not just syntax familiarity but genuine understanding of the JVM concurrency models and writing code that performs under load

• Strong grasp of distributed systems fundamentals: consistency models failure modes backpressure eventual consistency trade-offs

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure)

• Experience operating streaming or NoSQL data infrastructure (Kafka Cassandra HBase or equivalents)

• A track record of delivering SaaS products with serious quality signals: observability graceful degradation security threat modelling load testing

• Clear direct communication e.g. you can write a design doc that gets to the point and push back constructively in a review

Youll stand out if you have:

• Experience designing systems that ingest or process data at petabyte scale

• Contributions to open-source projects or a history of engaging with the broader engineering community
