Polymers Intern
Job Summary
Essential Responsibilities
This position will support the Polymers processing operations including molding extrusion and other duties as assigned. This role reports directly to the Sr. Injection Molding Processing Engineer and will assist in improving manufacturing efficiency ensuring product quality and supporting continuous improvement initiatives through hand-on experience in process optimization data analysis troubleshooting and quality systems.
- Assist in monitoring and optimizinginjection molding and extrusion processesto improve efficiency and reduce scrap.
- Supportdesign and modeling of components fixtures or tooling using SolidWorks including creating and updating CAD drawings as needed.
- Supportprocess troubleshootingby collecting data documenting issues and assisting in root cause analysis.
- Participate inprocess validation activities including IQ/OQ/PQ support and documentation.
- Analyze production data (cycle time yield scrap rates) to identifytrends and improvement opportunities.
- Assist in developing and updatingstandard operating procedures (SOPs)and work instructions.
- Supportnew product introduction (NPI)activities including tooling trials sample evaluation and process setup.
- Work with cross-functional teams (Quality Production Maintenance) oncontinuous improvement projects.
- Assist inmaterial evaluations and compatibility testingfor polymer applications.
- Help maintain compliance withISO 13485 and FDA regulationsby ensuring proper documentation and adherence to procedures.
- Participate in5S and lean manufacturing initiativeswithin the production area.
- Provide support in maintainingaccurate production and inventory records.
- Assist withsupplier evaluationsand documentation related to tooling or raw materials.
- Follow allsafety protocolsand support risk assessments in manufacturing areas.
- All other duties assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is an individual contributor and has no direct supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
This position operates in an office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. The position also interacts with machinery on the manufacturing floor and numerous devices that are sold by the company.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand walk and stoop; use hands to finger handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position requiring at least 25 hours of work per week. Days and hours of work will be between Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires no measurable travel.
Required Education and Experience
- Working toward a Bachelor or Masters degree in Engineering Materials Science Polymer Engineering Mechanical Engineering Industrial Engineering or other related discipline.
- Must have at least two semesters remaining in the academic program at the time of application.
- Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks AutoCAD etc.) is preferred.
- Exposure to data analysis tools (Excel Minitab or similar) preferred.
- Ability to read write and follow detailed procedures
- Demonstrated experience reading and preparing technical documentation
