Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Deliver high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential for KS5)
Plan and teach engaging challenging lessons that inspire a love of reading writing and critical thinking
Prepare pupils for internal assessments and public examinations (GCSE/A Level)
Differentiate teaching to support all learners including high-attaining pupils and those requiring additional support
Assessment & Progress
Assess monitor and track pupil progress providing clear and constructive feedback
Use assessment data to inform teaching and support pupil achievement
Prepare pupils effectively for examinations developing strong analytical and writing skills
Pastoral Care
Act as a form tutor supporting pupils academic progress and personal development
Build strong relationships with pupils and parents maintaining clear and professional communication
Contribute to the schools strong pastoral system and uphold safeguarding responsibilities
Curriculum & Department Contribution
Contribute to the development of an ambitious and enriching English curriculum
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practice and develop high-quality teaching resources
Participate in departmental meetings curriculum planning and co-curricular initiatives
Support activities such as debating drama creative writing and literary societies
Wider School Contribution
Contribute to the broader life of the school including trips clubs and enrichment activities
Attend school events such as open days parent evenings and academic evenings
Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school community
Person Specification
Essential
A degree in English or a related subject
Teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent)
Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
Strong subject knowledge and passion for English literature and language
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A Level English Literature and/or Language
Experience in an independent school setting
Ability to contribute to co-curricular activities such as drama or creative writing

Working Hours
