Description:

What You Will Do:

• Orienting and embedding processed histological tissue.

• Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s) according to policies and procedures.

• Maintains and performs special stains for histologic differentiation of selected tissue elements entities and microorganisms providing valuable information to pathologists in the evaluation of numerous abnormal or disease conditions.

• Ensures the quality of dyes through independent testing according to appropriate rigorous chemical and performance criteria and SOPs.

• Ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples. Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.

• Prepares slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.

• Performs cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.

• Prepares solutions and reagents for special stain procedures. Obtains and validates tissue used in special stains.

• May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures. May obtain and prepare control material used in IHC procedures for validation.

40 hours Day shifts

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) or an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry(must include credit hours in both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical veterinary industry or research) laboratory in the U.S. Canada or an accredited laboratory* within the last ten years.

• Must have at least 1 yr Histotechnician with specialty stains

• HT ASCP required.

• Must have experience in the following areas: Fixation Microtomy Processing Staining IHC
