Accounting Assistant

Location: 301 S St. Suite 500 Lincoln NE (13th & M Street in the Cornhusker Building)

Schedule: Full-Time Monday-Friday 8:30 AM 5:00 PM

Position Overview

Woods Aitken LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Assistant to support our finance and administrative operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers values accuracy and takes pride in doing things the right way.

This position offers a unique opportunity for long-term growth within the firm. For the right candidate this role can serve as a foundation for advancement into higher-level accounting responsibilities with the potential to grow into a Controller position over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable including invoice review coding and payment preparation
  • Assist with attorney billing including edits reviews and coordination with timekeepers
  • Reconcile firm credit card accounts and ensure proper documentation and coding
  • Support general accounting functions including data entry reporting and account maintenance
  • Assist with bank and financial reconciliations as needed
  • Perform conflict checks and assist with opening new client matters
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial and administrative records
  • Collaborate with accounting administrative and legal teams to support firm operations
  • Provide general support on special projects and additional tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional office environment preferred
  • Knowledge of legal terminology court procedures and e-filing systems preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Outlook Excel) and document management systems
  • Familiarity with Copilot or other AI tools preferred
  • Experience with legal practice management/time & billing systems preferred
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrates accuracy consistency and a commitment to doing work thoroughly
  • Understands the importance of internal controls and avoiding shortcuts
  • Positive team-oriented attitude with a willingness to step in and help where needed
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable learning new systems and tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across departments

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work full-time in-office Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM unless otherwise arranged
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds as needed for moving file boxes as needed
  • Ability to perform tasks that may require frequent movement between workstations conference rooms and common areas
  • Ability to effectively carryout seated computer-based responsibilities for extended periods and work at a computer
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person by phone and in writing
