Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given British Columbia mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health the BC Nurses Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Salary Details

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Eligibility for the post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately one year recent acute medical/surgical experience.

BCIT Emergency Nursing Specialty Program

Online Prerequisites: Approx. July - Nov. 2026 - BCIT to Confirm Exact Dates
Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations:
Jan. - Apr. 2027 - BCIT to Confirm Exact Dates

*course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed. VCH only funds for required courses.

Travel to lower mainland required during practicums. Travel expenses reimbursed according to VCH policy.

Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.


Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.


This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for Registered Nurses to join the Emergency Department at qathet General Hospital in Powell River BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Registered Nurse - Critical Care/Emergency/PACU you will:

  • Provide emergency nursing care to clients/patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms within an uncontrolled environment as well as care to critically ill patients/clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery.
  • As member of emergency response team stabilizes and resuscitates multi-trauma victims and prepares for and responds to disaster situations.
  • Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Consults confers and collaborates with other health care givers.
  • Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Maintains and advances clinical competence.
  • Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
