Summary:
The Custodian will perform daily cleaning minor maintenance yard duties and assigned tasks in order to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.

Responsibilities:
Sweeps mops scrubs waxes and burnish floors as well as vacuums and shampoos carpets as applicable; cleans sanitizes and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces as assigned; removes and disposes of waste products daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
Performs minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks of facility including but not limited to changing light bulbs changing toilet seats unclogging toilets changing ceiling tiles touching up paint securing window(s) delivering supplies setting up for facility activities/meetings and assembling/moving furniture.
Follows a lawn and facility maintenance program including but not limited to mowing (pushing and/or riding) weeding weed-eating edging trimming fertilizing minor plant replacement mulching blowing off sidewalks/curbs watering pressure washing and graffiti removal as appropriate.
Opens or closes and secures facility including but not limited to gates doors windows and alarm systems. Turns on/off all lights making sure that grounds and facility are free of debris and hazards. Responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
Performs work duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew depending upon the nature of the task works cooperatively in group situations exhibits tact and consideration
displays positive outlook and pleasant manner offers assistance and support to co-workers and works actively to resolve conflicts.
Assumes modified duties and responsibilities of the Head Custodian or Custodial Crew Leader in the event of absence or vacancy.
Possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
Performs any other duties as assigned.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: All new and current employees are highly encouraged to complete the Custodial Operations Career Advancement training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Language Skills: Reads and comprehends simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations. Must possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
Mathematical Skills: Add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Computer Skills: Internal HCPS email system and HCPS district website as appropriate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical Activities: Standing walking sitting climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching bending crawling handling keyboarding fingering feeling talking hearing tasting/smelling near acuity far acuity depth perception color vision and field of vision.
Lifting Demands: Up to 55 pounds; over 55 pounds requires a 2-person lift.
