Established in 2000 the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies advanced materials and additive manufacturing.

Job Description

As aLead Engineer Computer Vision you will conduct research incomputer vision artificial intelligence and machine learningand work closely with scientists and engineers to developvision-based inspection monitoring and perception systemsfor aerospace applications.

You will:

  • Develop and implement algorithms to processaerospace visual data(e.g. images video sensor data) for tasks such asdefect detection damage assessment visual search and anomaly detection.
  • Applydeep learningand modern computer vision techniques (e.g. CNNs vision transformers detection and segmentation networks) to real-world aerospace problems.
  • Design experiments define metrics and conduct rigorous evaluations to validate model and system performance.
  • Integrate AI/ML models withphysics-based understandingof systems leveraging modeling optimization estimation or detection technologies to improve performance and robustness.
  • Validate solutions throughsimulation and on-target products maturing technologies for transfer to GE Aerospace businesses.
  • Document technologies and results throughpatent applications technical reports and publications.
  • Collaborate in amultidisciplinary environmentand communicate results and recommendations to technical peers and business stakeholders.

You will address challenges unique to theaerospace domain including varying operating conditions complex 3D geometries multimodal data (e.g. image text sensor) data quality constraints and integration of AI solutions intosafety-critical and regulated workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degreein Computer Science Electrical Electronics Mechanical Aerospace or related Engineering field with specialization inComputer Vision Machine Learning AI or a related area and3 yearsof relevant experience;
    ORPhDin a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience indeep learning for vision including one or more of:
    • Image classification object detection segmentation
    • Anomaly/defect detection 3D vision or multi-view geometry
  • Proficiency inPythonand at least one deep learning framework ( TensorFlow).
  • Experience implementingdata pipelines training/evaluation code and deploying models in experimental or pilot settings.
  • Knowledge and application ofdata analytics optimization estimation or detection algorithms.
  • Self-starterwith the ability to work in ambiguous environments andstrong communicationand teamwork skills.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experiencetraining fine-tuning and deploying computer vision models at scale including on GPUs or specialized hardware.
  • Experience withlarge-scale image/video datasetsand data curation/augmentation strategies.
  • Familiarity withmultimodal learning(e.g. combining vision with text sensor or time-series data).
  • Experience inindustrial domains(Aviation Energy Healthcare Manufacturing etc.) and understanding of constraints in safety-critical or regulated environments.
  • Strong foundations inalgorithm design numerical methods and performance optimizationacross different computing architectures (e.g. GPU edge).
  • Proven track record oftechnical publicationsor patents in AI/ML/computer vision venues is a plus.
  • Experience contributing to or leadingend-to-end development of digital or AI products from concept to prototype or pilot deployment.
