Airgas is currently searching for an Area Safety Manager to support Airgas Dry Ice in the northeast region. You will shepherd and guide the safety programs for your designated branches and assigned production facilities. This will involve learning the business and determining how Safety can tailor the approach to the business. The incumbent will work hand in hand with the business to cultivate a safety culture through fresh ideas excellent practices and the ability to positively connect with and inspire all levels of associates.

In terms of the core functions you will also be responsible for:

  • Fostering Safety Awareness: Our primary focus is to foster safety awareness and enhance our safety culture across the region.

  • Mentorship & Training: Oversee the consistent execution of safety training for new Drivers (including Smith System and DOT regulatory training) and empower local managers to be more collaborative and confident in their safety leadership.

  • Compliance Partnership: Partner with the team to maintain full DOT and OSHA compliance through effective training and supportive leadership.

  • On-boarding Support: Assist new drivers with classroom exercises and on-route time to support and mentor them adapting the duration based on the drivers progress and needs.

  • Program Stewardship: Launch and sustain safety programs and procedures that protect our people by minimizing the frequency and severity of injuries and accidents.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with local Branch and Production teams to cultivate a robust safety culture and champion continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Supportive Auditing: Perform periodic safety and compliance audits designed not to be punitive but to help the facilities implement improvements and reach their potential.

  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure all DOT safety regulations are met including monitoring HOS files providing retraining/mentorship for violations and ensuring unsafe delivery sites are corrected.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or High School diploma with formal technical
    training considered in conjunction with extensive relevant experience.

  • Minimum 2 years experience training in manufacturing setting delivering training materials to groups and fostering understanding of safety protocols.

  • Thorough understanding of DOT and OSHA rules and regulations.

  • High emotional intelligence as a relationship-builder with a talent for building alignment from frontline teams to executive leadership.

  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
