Unit & Position Role

SJFHQ is UK Defences standing veryhighreadiness 2star operationallevel headquarters that deploys to command and control joint multinational and interagency operations up to mediumscale warfighting.

SO1 Plans (Maritime) is the senior maritime planner within SJFHQ J5 responsible for leading the integration of maritime considerations into joint operational planning.

Responsibilities

Deputise for ACOS Plans when required.

Contribute to joint operationallevel planning supporting the development of COAs CONOPS OPLAN annexes and planning products across the full planning cycle.

Participate in and support the Joint Operational Planning Group (JOPG)working within both the Principal Planning Group (PPG) and Staff Planning Group (SPG) as directed ensuring integrated crossbranch planning.

Provide clear timely advice to the ACOS Plans ensuring that domainspecific insights (maritime if applicable) inform operational design risk identification and planning decisions.

Coordinate with component commands SMEs and liaison officers (e.g. intelligence logistics JE/targeting LEGAD POLAD CIS CEMA space) ensuring their inputs shape joint planning outputs.

Support wargaming redteaming and planning refinement stresstesting COAs and contributing to decisionsupport products.

Ensure planning activities remain doctrinally aligned with AJP5 COPD and SJFHQ planning SOIs maintaining highquality coherent outputs.

Engage in multidomain integration ensuring land air maritime information cyber space and sustainment considerations are unified within the operational design.

Maintain R2 readiness to deploy and operate flexibly as part of a crossfunctional planning team recognising that responsibilities may shift in response to HQ readiness levels manning changes and evolving operational requirements.
