A school custodianensures a safe sanitary and functional environment for students and staff by cleaning classrooms restrooms and common areas managing waste and performing minor repairs. Responsibilities include daily sweeping mopping vacuuming disinfecting surfaces and managing building security (locking doors).
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning & Sanitation:Daily cleaning of restrooms classrooms cafeteria and offices. This includes mopping stripping/buffing floors cleaning chalkboards and cleaning spills.
- Safety & Security:Locking doors securing buildings and checking windows. Ensuring cleaning chemicals are properly used and stored.
- Grounds Upkeep:Assisting with exterior cleaning such as sweeping entrances removing trash etc.
- Event Support:Setting up and breaking down furniture for assemblies lunches or evening events.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Physical Stamina:Significant walking bending kneeling and standing for long periods.
- Lifting:Frequently lifting and moving furniture or heavy equipment.
- Environment:Indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to cleaning chemicals and heavy noise.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school graduate preferred
Working Environment
- Needs to be able to talk and interact with administrators school staff and students in a manner that is a positive reflection of the goals of the school
- Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security (TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. )
