Job Summary: The Waterloo Community School District is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Assistant Principal for the Waterloo Career Center (WCC) at the future Waterloo United High School. This role is critical in developing a high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) program aligned to the districts long-term vision and will help build the leadership foundation for the new high school.

During the and school years this individual will serve as the Assistant Principal of the Waterloo Career Center helping to lead the daily operations planning and development of a comprehensive and systemic Career and Technical Education program in preparation for the opening of Waterloo United High School in the fall of 2028. Beginning with the school year this individual will transition to serve as a member of the Waterloo United High School administrative leadership team.

This position will lead the design and implementation of WCC systems career pathways and partnerships that prepare students for postsecondary success and the workforce. The Assistant Principal will support instructional improvement monitor curriculum implementation and foster a positive student-centered school culture focused on achievement and career readiness.

Key responsibilities include building and maintaining strong partnerships with business and industry expanding work-based learning opportunities (job shadows internships apprenticeships) supporting staff collaboration and ensuring alignment across programs. This role also involves coordinating student placements developing training plans monitoring student progress and using data to evaluate and improve programs.

The Assistant Principal will also support student accountability family engagement and career readiness initiatives while collaborating with counselors and staff on employability skills and career exploration. Additional duties include supporting program development maintaining industry connections and engaging in ongoing professional learning.

Hiring Specifications:
Education

  • Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university

Certification

  • Eligibility for Iowa Department of Education endorsement as a school principal

Experience

  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Public Relations experience preferred

Leadership

  6. Provides reports as needed of continuing new and proposed programs.
  7. Provides written documentation for vertical articulation and horizontal coordination and evaluation of instructional programs as required.
  8. Promotes active learning and high expectations.
  9. Designs professional development to meet the needs of the buildings staff relative to a standard of performance to ultimately improve student achievement.

Staff Development

  1. Models the district expectation of continuous improvement.
  2. Provides for opportunities and encourages staff members to participate in clinics workshops and state and regional conferences.
  3. Provides for opportunities and encourages staff members to participate in district curriculum meetings site/classroom coaching and observations and visits to other schools.
  4. Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers new to the building and other faculty groups and committees.
  5. Provides for continuing development of instructional techniques and assists staff in improving their methods and techniques based on students needs.
  6. Organizes plans or assists in the development of programs for professional development.

Pupil Personnel Services

  1. Strives to provide for the academic social and emotional needs of all students.
  2. Maintains an environment conducive to learning for all students with sensitivity to and provision for cultural diversity.
  3. Oversees/administers the registration schedule and orientation of students assigned in accordance with regulations regarding their enrollment.
  4. Administers regulations regarding student behavior discipline and attendance.
  5. Provides opportunities for personal social and educational guidance.
  6. Provides for the safety health and welfare of students.
  7. Initiates and participates in the recommendations evaluation and assignment of students to various programs.
  8. Develops implements and evaluates the guidance program.
  9. Regulates the retention and promotion of students in accordance with School Board policies.

Staff Supervision and Evaluation

  1. Monitors instruction to evaluate teaching practices and curricular alignment and to provide
  2. the necessary leadership to improve teaching.
  3. Provides staff with specific suggestions for improving the delivery of curriculum including the
  4. selection of effective strategies and resources.
