GE Vernova Renewable Grid Integration product line is globally recognized for designing manufacturing and delivering customized 66kV to 765kV Substations High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) SVC & STATCOM solutions for utilities worldwide. Every solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers individual requirements whether it is for connecting offshore/onshore wind generation long distance power transmission or energy trading between independent networks.
The Civil & Structural Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading civil and structural engineering activities for EHV / HV AIS & GIS substations HVDC converter stations renewable integration substations and associated EPC infrastructure.
The role requires technical leadership in the planning design review coordination and delivery of civil and structural engineering scope in line with contract requirements applicable codes and standards quality expectations safety regulations project schedule and budget objectives. The candidate will act as a key contributor within project execution teams and will closely coordinate with electrical mechanical procurement construction OEMs vendors partners and customers.
The candidate will ensure that engineering solutions are safe optimized constructible compliant and aligned with business and project this role the candidate will lead teams manage engineering interfaces support resource and workload planning drive process compliance and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering function.
This is a core design engineering management role within EPC project execution. Candidates with predominantly construction-only maintenance or site supervision background without strong design engineering experience are not preferred.

Roles and Responsibilities
Specific Role Requirements
- Senior Civil & Structure Engineer for AIS & GIS substations HVDC converter stations renewable energy evacuation substations and associated EPC infrastructure.
- Design and review substation buildings including control buildings GIS buildings relay rooms valve halls auxiliary buildings fire protection structures and utility buildings.
- Design and review foundations for transformers reactors harmonic filters GIS Bus Duct circuit breakers isolators gantries towers capacitor banks equipment support structures and other associated yard equipment.
- Design and review structural steel systems including equipment support structures gantries lattice / tubular structures pipe supports and miscellaneous steel items.
- Design and review roads cable trenches drainage systems retaining structures and other site development works.
- Perform and review structural analysis and design for wind seismic equipment and construction loading conditions using software such as STAAD Pro or equivalent.
- Prepare and review design calculations design basis reports technical specifications general arrangement drawings RCC drawings structural steel drawings foundation drawings BOQs.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications customer requirements geotechnical recommendations applicable Indian and international codes design basis criteria and regulations.
- Review and validate vendor drawings fabrication drawings construction drawings and OEM input data before issue to customers / site / construction teams.
- Support technical evaluation of vendor offers and supplier documents related to civil and structural scope.
- Good understanding of civilelectricalmechanical interfaces impacting plant and substation design.
- Review of geotechnical recommendations and apply them in structural / foundation design.
- Prepare review and verify BOQs civil quantities during tender and execution stages.
- Ensure engineering optimization with due consideration to safety constructability maintainability standardization delivery schedule and project profitability.
- Support site teams for resolution of civil and structural design issues during construction erection and commissioning stages.
- Support tender / ITO teams with civil design concepts quantity estimation technical assumptions and engineering clarifications.
- Contribute to design standardization lessons learned and return of experience for future bids and project execution.
Add-on Competency (Optional)
- Knowledge of HVDC converter station civil design including valve hall buildings converter transformers smoothing reactors and associated structures.
- Knowledge of FACTS / STATCOM civil and structural requirements.
- Familiar with BIM / 3D modelling environments.
- Familiarity with specialized engineering tools automation tools for civil design calculations and quantity estimation.
Technical Coordination & Interfaces
- Lead and coordinate civil and structural design activities for assigned projects or work packages in line with safety quality cost and delivery targets.
- Coordinate with Electrical Mechanical BIM / CAD Procurement Construction OEMs suppliers partners customers and third-party contractors for timely closure of engineering interfaces.
- Ensure timely availability and consolidation of input data such as equipment loads clearances soil parameters interface requirements layout constraints vendor data and information.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and ensure closure of technical comments action points and interface issues in accordance with project procedures.
Planning Resource Management and Budget Control
- Prepare and manage engineering deliverable lists submission schedules and workload plans for assigned project scope.
- Support engineering budget planning tracking and optimization for assigned project scope.
- Consolidate engineering workload and manage resource allocation for timely execution of project engineering activities.
Process Quality and Safety
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality procedures work instructions engineering processes and document control requirements.
- Apply relevant Indian and international design codes and standards such as IS ACI BS Eurocodes or project-specific standards.
- Incorporate safety-by-design constructability durability and EHS considerations into all engineering deliverables.
- Maintain design traceability consistency and proper engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure effective management of document return status for internal and external submissions such as approved / commented / resubmit / rejected documents.
- Review and validate partner OEM and vendor civil / structural documents to ensure compliance with EPC scope project specifications and quality requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Experience
- Minimum 18-20 years of relevant experience in civil and structural design engineering for EHV/HV AIS & GIS substations.
- Knowledge of HVDC converter station projects will be an added advantage.
- Strong interface in EPC project environments to deal effectively.
- Experience in handling design review customer comments technical deviations vendor documents interdisciplinary interfaces and project execution challenges.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools such as STAAD Pro or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of civilelectricalmechanical engineering interfaces in substation projects.
- Strong planning coordination and stakeholder management skills.
