Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Ecology Evolution and Organismal Biology (EEOB) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites application for a fulltime nontenureeligible faculty appointment at the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will contribute to the departments teaching mission in ecology organismal biology and datadriven environmental science. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching four courses per academic year specifically:

    • ENSCI 3700: GIS for Ecology and Environmental Science (Fall)

    • BIOL 1010: Introductory Biologyfor nonmajors (Spring)

  • Developing new undergraduate and/or graduate coursesin areas aligned with departmental needs and the candidates expertise particularly:

    • Introductory applieddata analysisfor ecological and environmental sciences

    • Machine learningapplications in ecology environmental monitoring and biodiversity research for upper-level undergrads and graduate students

  • Engaging in departmental service including contribution to program development participation in curriculum planning and support of departmental initiatives related to student success.

  • Mentoring undergraduate students especially those involved in experiential learning research projects environmental data analysis and computational ecology.

The ideal candidate will be committed to innovative experiential and datadriven teaching practices that prepare students to tackle challenges in ecology and environmental science.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Ecology Evolutionary Biology Biological Sciences or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated universitylevel teaching experience in ecology environmental science biology or quantitative methods.

  • Experience teaching or designing courses that involvestatistical programmingdata scienceGIS ormachine learningas applied to ecological questions.

  • A record of scholarly activity including publications in nationally or internationally recognized journals.

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers.

  • Background in ecological data modeling remote sensing computational ecology or related areas.
