Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect physical therapy services as outlined in students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.
  • Conduct assessments of gross motor skills functional mobility strength balance coordination and postural control for students referred for special education evaluation to help determine eligibility for services.
  • Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process providing input on assessment measures intervention strategies and student progress.
  • Collaborate as a member of the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
  • Consult with teachers school administrators parents and relevant stakeholders regarding students physical development mobility needs and accessibility accommodations.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to integrate physical therapy strategies into the school environment and support students participation in academic and non-academic activities.
  • Provide training to staff and caregivers on safe and effective positioning transfers adaptive equipment use and mobility strategies.
  • Develop implement evaluate and adjust physical therapy interventions in collaboration with school staff and parents.
  • Utilize treatment strategies that promote functional mobility strength balance endurance coordination and overall independence in the school setting.
  • Recommend modify and monitor adaptive equipment and assistive devices to enhance students physical access and participation.
  • Maintain an accurate record of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator on any changes.
  • Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs and track student progress toward therapy goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in handling confidential matters and materials.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current practices and research in school-based physical therapy.


Qualifications:

  • Physical Therapist License issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
  • Relevant experience in school settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and commitment to student success.
