Overview

Position Summary

In support of the mission vision and values of Kennedy Krieger Institute the SpeechLanguage Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides direct patient and student care under the supervision of a licensed and certified SpeechLanguage Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA implements treatment programs developed by the supervising SLP maintains clinical documentation and supports highquality evidencebased service delivery that promotes positive outcomes for children and families.

Services are delivered in accordance with departmental standards regulatory requirements and programspecific guidelines. For schoolbased roles services are implemented as outlined in each students Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement speechlanguage intervention programs developed by a supervising SLP using evidencebased practices and departmental quality standards.
  • Collaborate with families medical providers educators and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care and optimal service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete case management activities in accordance with Institute policies and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g. The Joint Commission CARF MSDE ASHA).
  • Participate in required supervisory meetings with the supervising SLP to review progress adjust treatment plans and support clinical decisionmaking.
  • Support clinical operations including preparing therapy materials maintaining equipment assisting with scheduling supporting parent or staff trainings and assisting with clinical research activities.
  • Refer all questions related to evaluation diagnosis interpretation of findings referrals or counseling to the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and professional development activities with supervising SLP present as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with departmental and Institute goals.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a SpeechLanguage Pathology Assistant issued by the Maryland Board of Audiologists Hearing Aid Dispensers and SpeechLanguage Pathologists (required).
  • CPR certification required within three months of hire.
  • For schoolbased positions: Ability to obtain and maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification at the required level; training provided by the department.

Education & Experience

  • Associates degree or higher meeting coursework requirements established by the Maryland Board of Audiologists Hearing Aid Dispensers and SpeechLanguage Pathologists.
  • Completion of all clinical requirements for SLPA licensure in Maryland.
  • Experience working with pediatric populations with developmental disabilities and/or communication disorders preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move between offices and treatment locations throughout the workday.
  • Ability to travel to various sites within Maryland as needed.
  • Ability to perform job duties using computers clinical equipment and assistive technology.
  • Availability to work outside standard business hours as required.
  • Onsite presence required; hybrid or remote work may be available at the discretion of department leadership.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases bloodborne pathogens or behaviorally challenging situations.
