Job Summary

Summary Description: Open rank (depending on qualifications) Assistant or Associate Professor in Pastoral Studies is responsible for teaching classes developing curriculum and mentoring students in Pastoral Studies program Christian ministry and related fields. The ideal candidate will be a scholar-practitioner with university teaching experience in a range of courses to include biblical studies spiritual formation Christian pastoral ministries religion social ethics and theology with special focus on Church of God (Anderson) theological concepts. Interested candidate should have university-level teaching experience and have provided pastoral services at a Church of God (Anderson). This position may provide preaching and worship service support for the Campus Pastor as needed.

Essential Functions:
  • Teach assigned courses preparing students for careers in fields related to Christian ministries pastoral ministries missions youth ministries some non-profit and parachurch and community development ministries theological studies and general education curriculum in these fields.
  • Articulate and model current best practices in teaching especially related to first generation college students.
  • Mentor students in the Pastoral Studies program and related fields as assigned.
  • Serve on academic committees as assigned.
  • Develop and review curriculum for courses in Pastoral Studies and related areas including potential online and/or graduate curricula.
  • Develop and implement assessment tools for Pastoral Studies program.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate personnel to develop and implement a Covenant Agreement with Church of God Ministries Inc. to provide qualified students with a pathway to apply for credentials in the Church of God (Anderson) ordination process through participation in the WPU Pastoral Ministry curriculum and Leadership Focus
  • Work collegially with faculty staff and students.
  • Understand and promote the mission values and core themes of Warner Pacific University.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions with faculty staff and students.
  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the WPU Strategic Plan.
  • Continue professional growth including participation in the professional development opportunities provided by the institution.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a Christ-centered Liberal Arts education by upholding the mission of the university and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
  • Exhibit commitment to inclusiveness and sensitivity in areas of national origin ethnicity culture gender and disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Biblical Studies Spiritual Formation Theology Missions Social Ethics or related field required.
  • College teaching experience in relevant curriculum.
  • Ordained Minister with pastoral service in the Church of God (Anderson) movement.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to educate and mentor traditional and first year students.
  • Service in positions of leadership in professional organizations.
  • Record of scholarship.
Physical Demands Work Environment:
The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
