The Ferguson-Florissant School District is a community of families and neighborhoods located in suburban St. Louis MO. Fully-accredited by the state of Missouri the district provides an excellent comprehensive educational program for nearly 10000 students from preschool through 12th grade. The district is comprised of seven primary schools (PreK-2) six elementary schools (3-5) two sixth grade centers two middle schools (7-8) two high schools and one alternative school as well as a nationally-recognized early education program the PROBE gifted education program the award-winning Challenger Learning Center Little Creek Nature Area a STEAM middle school and a STEAM high school.

Position Overview: The FFSD Resident Teacher is a position created exclusively for persons accepted into Teach St. Louis Residency program and committed to Ferguson-Florissant School District. Teach St. Louis is designed as an apprenticeship program where program participants earn their Missouri teaching licensure in Elementary Education or Secondary Math Science or ELA as well as a masters degree from Washington University.
Throughout the duration of the program Resident Teachers will work in a Ferguson-Florissant School District school. Resident Teachers will complete their initial residency year at one of the programs training sites co-teaching with an experienced mentor teacher. After successful completion of the residency year Teacher Residents are certified and become lead-teachers within the Ferguson-Florissant School the second year as a lead-teacher Teacher Residents continue coursework at Washington University earning a Master of Art in Teaching and Learning.
Residency Program Components:
Ferguson-Florissant School District and Teach St. Louis partner to provide Teacher Residents with an accelerated and cost-effective pathway into a career in education. Teacher Residents will:
- Complete a rigorous full-year classroom apprenticeship co-teaching Monday - Thursday with an experienced mentor teacher at a Ferguson-Florissant School District training site school.
- On Fridays and one weekday evening participate in aligned graduate-level coursework with Teach St. Louis preparing them to effectively serve students in urban schools and Ferguson-Florissant classrooms.
- Earn initial teacher certification in the state of Missouri and a Masters degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
- Receive ongoing instructional coaching during their first two years in the program.
- Commit to lead-teach in a Ferguson-Florissant District school for 3 years after the initial apprenticeship year.
Eligibility:
FFSD Teacher Residents are diverse candidates who believe that all students are capable of academic achievement and are ready to make a difference in St. Louis classrooms. We look for candidates with a variety of backgrounds including recent college graduates working professionals career changers and those currently in support roles at FFSD. To be eligible to apply all candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelors degree completed by July 2026 in any area of study
- Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
- A commitment to work at Ferguson-Florissant School District for a total of four years pending annual recommendation for renewal based on evaluations.
Compensation & Benefits:
During the initial apprenticeship year residents receive a salary of $24000 provided by Ferguson-Florissant School District along with full health benefits and paid time off. Residents are alsoeligible for ateaching position at Ferguson-Florissant School District upon completion of the apprenticeship year two (2) Teacher Residents become lead-teachers earning a full-time teacher salary and comprehensive benefit package so long as they retain thier provisional certification.
