Hospital Safety Officer
The University of Miami/UHealth department of Radiation Control has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Hospital Safety Officer to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Hospital Safety Officer (H) is responsible for ensuring that all Joint Commission guidelines for the Physical Environment of Care standards at the assigned hospital and/or hospital based clinics remain compliant. This includes annual review and completion of the Periodic Performance Review (PPR) which include the following Joint Commission Chapters: Life Safety (LS) Emergency Management (EM) and Environment of Care (EOC).
Ensures that all Joint Commission guidelines for the EOC LifeSafety andEMchapters at the hospitals and clinicsremaincompliant. This includesannualreview and completion of the Periodic Performance Review (PPR).
Coordinates and oversees all AHCA CMS OSHA and all other applicable AHJ standards.
Coordinates activities of the management plans within the Environment of care for the hospital and serves as the Safety -chairsEOCCommittee with the Director of theEOCCompliance.
Provides support to the Director ofEOCComplianceregardingsafety improvement efforts.
Ensures safety and facility quality control is in compliance with local federal state regulations and provide consultations.
Reviews and track data provided within theEOCprogram to make ongoing improvements.
Participates in hospital committees as required by the Director ofEOCCompliance.This includes community involvementregardingemergency preparedness andserveasconsultantto other departments.
Reviews andupdatepoliciesregardingtheEOC LS Fire Safety(FS)andEM.
Participatesin performance improvement and information management activities. Coordinates andparticipateswith multidisciplinaryteamto conduct ongoing safety tours of clinical and nonclinical areas.
Assists in the enforcement of interim life safety plans and infection control risk assessments.
Oversees all on-site inspectionsassistinginspectors and surveyors in the performance of their duties; provides reports asin follow-up to surveysinspectionsand audits.
Ensuresissues chosen by theEOCQuality Improvement Committeearemonitoredand that the resultsare reportedback to that committee.
Activelyparticipatesin safety management of theEOCCommittee; Works with other managers to ensure that theobjectives scope performance and effectiveness of each of the EOC management plansare evaluatedat least annually based on analysis of incident reports and other information.
Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets wordprocessing calendaremailand database softwareinperforming work assignments; May access protected health information (PHI)in accordance withdepartmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access (i.e. incidental v. extensive).
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance withUniversitypolicies and procedures. Ensures employeesare trainedoncontrols within the function andonUniversitypolicy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions
The Haz Mat Safety Officer - Radiation Safety position is essential for ensuring the safety and compliance of radiation practices across all UHealth facilities. Reporting to the Radiation Control Center leadership this role supports the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and is integral to maintaining radiation safety standards. The incumbent is responsible for providing patient-facing radiation safety services including surveys monitoring training and compliance with federal and state regulations. This position also plays a critical role in managing hazardous materials and ensuring safe handling practices in radiation environments.

COREQUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum5years ofrelevantexperience
Certified Health Physicist Radiation Safety Technician is preferred
