The Department of Anesthesiology at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking board eligible/board certified anesthesiologists to join our Emory University addition this position is a part of a search looking for a Vice Chair of Professional Development to lead the department of Anesthesiology in the professional development of the hired physicians faculty and staff.
Staffed exclusively by Emory University School of Medicine faculty Emory University Hospital is a quaternary-care academic medical center which performs 25000 anesthetic cases per year and is one of the nations leading hospitals in solid organ transplants cancer neurosurgery and more.
As a member of the faculty physicians actively engage in the tripartite mission delivering high-quality clinical care participating in innovative research and educating medical students future anesthesiologists and anesthetists.
Emory Universitys anesthesiology program includes 48 residents 20 fellows in ACGME programs such as cardiac critical care OB and pain and non-ACGME programs in neuro anesthesia and liver transplant.
The Vice Chair (VC) for Professional Development will work with the VC for Education to assist in the professional development of trainees as needed. The VC for Professional Development will have achieved the rank of Associate Professor or higher when they assume the role.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: The Vice Chair for Professional Development will:
- Work with the Division Chiefs on their leadership of the Division and their professional development of the faculty in their division.
- Aid and advise the Chair on the best and most innovative ways to help physicians faculty and staff to achieve their professional goals.
- Collaborate with the Division Chiefs the Vice Chairs of Clinical Operations in the hiring process to ensure that the department is staffed with physicians and anesthetists
dedicated to excellence in clinical practice. - Be an active member of the Department Appointments and Promotions Committee.
- Lead the department Professional Development Committee.
- Assist faculty members in understanding the promotions process and CV review when appropriate.
- Advise faculty on the creation of their promotion packet.
- Collaborate with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs to ensure that faculty are engaged in professional growth and development in clinical anesthesia.
- Help to educate Division Chiefs and other Vice Chairs as appropriate on the performance of Career Conference Performance Reviews (CCPR) each year.
- This individual will also supervise faculty Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and CPP reviews along with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs.
- Work with the Vice Chair for Operations on appropriate distribution of nonclinical time based on academic productivity and service needs.
Time Allocation: The Vice Chair for Professional Development will receive 20% protected nonclinical time to fulfill the requirements of the post at the discretion of the Chair.
Report: Vice Chair for Professional Development reports to the Chair
Candidate Qualifications:
- M.D. D.O. or foreign equivalent.
- Eligible to apply for a medical license in the state of Georgia.
- American Board of Anesthesiology board certified/eligible.
- The VC for Professional Development will have achieved the rank of Associate Professor or higher when they assume the role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting faculty development and promotion processes collaborating with departmental leadership on recruitment and professional growth initiatives and participating in performance evaluation and committee activities.
- Criteria for faculty appointment include excellence across clinical care clinical teaching and scholarly activity.
- Experience with OB anesthesia a plus
