Nemours Childrens Hospital Delaware (formerly Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children) is hiring a Full-Time Occupational Therapist to join our team located in Wilmington DE.

This is a Full time OT for Acute Care with weekend requirements.

This position provides occupational therapy services such as patient examination evaluation intervention documentation parent/caregiver education communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as program serves children with rehabilitation needs such as those with a brain injury spinal cord injury neuromuscular disorders and cerebral palsy who are post-surgery.

This is a great opportunity to join a busy and growing Therapy team. We provide occupational therapy for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses ranging in age from birth to 17. We are also an early intervention partner with Delawares Birth to Three Early Intervention Program providing clinic-based services.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics adolescents and adults.
  • Able to provide occupational therapy services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3 Joint Commission and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consults with other services families and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
  • Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Completes all mandatory training; may include but not limited to safety infection control corporate compliance HIPAA bioterrorism CPR and program specific respiratory training.
  • Participates in triage and coverage planning as necessary to meet patient care and departmental needs.
  • When required by assignment participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980. GL.24.
  • Teamwork: Participates in conflict identification and resolution. Works cooperatively on multidisciplinary single discipline program specific and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
  • Professional Development: Independently seeks to expand clinical knowledge and evidenced based practice through literature reviews in-services courses and mentorships. May provide input on new treatment intervention strategies to ensure evidenced-based and current practices.

Job Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy or its equivalent from an ACOTE-accredited university required.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required. New graduates will be considered based on educational experiences.
  • State of Delaware Occupational Therapist License required upon hire.
  • A second license will be required for all clinical positions. Must submit license or proof of application submission within 2 weeks of job acceptance but this second license is not required to be active at the start of employment All clinical staff will maintain dual licensure (DE PA or NJ)
  • Pennsylvania clearances are required upon hire for those with a Pennsylvania license.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (AOTA State Occupational Therapy Assoc.) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.
